The lead singer is Mike Savage, and then the bald guitarist is Pig. The other guitarist is Peter Fletcher and on drums is Anthony Martinez who used to play with
Black Flag. Everyone except Anthony is from Colorado by the way.HIP: If you had to classify your music, how would you classify your music? God, that's a tough one. In one newspaper that did a story on the band not too long ago, they wrote "Viking Rock"(laughter). I don't know. We call it kind of funny and kind of scary kilt rock. HIP: Speaking of kilts, tell us a little more about your stage presence. You guys are pretty wild up there! We just wear bizzare shit that we put together. We wear kilts sometimes and sometimes we go out in g-strings. No, not g-strings but...what do we call them? Oh yeah, loin clothes. One time we all wore cocktail dresses from a certain movie, we just wear whatever we can find. Most of the time our girlfriends help us out though. HIP: How long have you guys been around? The band like it is has been around probably about 9 months, I guess. HIP: Any changes within those 9 months? Well, we added Peter on guitar about 5 months ago, otherwise there hasn’t been any changes at all. We went through a lot of drummers at the begining though. HIP: I know one of them was Tony from the Iguanas right? Yeah, Tony’s a great guy. I also played with him in a band called the Webb, and another called Trash Can School.
HIP: So do you think you guys influence each other as musicians or are more influenced by other bands?Pretty much each other I'd say. We all come from different backgrounds in music. Like Peter, he played with more metal bands, and you know Anthony of course played with Black Flag. I used to have my own band that I sang with called The Aviators and we put out an album out here in L.A., actually The Pygmy Love Circus is a continuation of a band called Mau-Mau 55 that Pig and Mike Savage used to do in Denver. HIP: What's happening with the band right now? Anything special? Well, we're gonna go up and play San Francisco, Reno, and possibly San Jose, and Santa Cruz in a couple of weeks. As far as LA goes, we're not going to play for a little while because a couple of us are going out of town, and then after that we're going to go on the road. When we get back I think we're going to go back to the stuff we used to do, like play downtown lofts and no talent nights. Dayle Gloria from Scream(late 80's alternative niteclub, now legendary) called us not too long ago and said she wanted us to play in there. So we're not going to be playing as much as we're used to. HIP: But you are going to start playing larger places right?
Yeah, that's what we're hoping on doing. We're also going to be working on an album, hopefully pretty soon. We're getting some papers soon on a production deal.HIP: That's great, I can't wait to get a hold of the finished product. There isn't anything available from Pigmy Love Circus out there right now? No, not yet. Just a demo tape. HIP: I'll give you some space here, say something. Come out and see us and talk to us afterwards,...we don't wear underwear. HIP: And you guys put on a great live show might I add.
