About the Author: Vladik Cervantes

Underground poet/writer Vladik Cervantes

Vladik Cervantes

Vladik Cervantes was born in inner-city Los Angeles. He is of Mexican descent with strong Spanish and Portugeuse ancestry. His indigenous roots are Mayan.

Local literary rags, coffeehouse poetry zines, and self-published chapbooks are his medium. His work can often be seen in these types of publications. In the past he's released two self-published collections of poetry to the bohemian literary community in Los Angeles. The first entitled Uptown, Downtown, and Other City Sufferings.

During the late 80's/early 90's, Vladik published HIP magazine, a local L.A. fanzine that covered the underground club scene of the time. For a brief period during that time, he also formed the band Reptile Black in which he contributed his writing skills, guitar skills, and voice. Reptile Black's keyboardist (JoJo) had come out of the same band that John Koviak of London After Midnight did, Another Perfect Day. Reptile Black's bassist was a former member of the band Nausea.

Also around this time, the only real original gothic niteclub, The Krypt, finally closed its doors for the last time. In response to the absence of a good niteclub, Vladik opened The Reptile House. A darker alternative to the alternative mainstream.

Vladik Cervantes currently owns and runs a small firm of computer consultants. He has recently finished his first novel, Still In Hollywood: Inner-city Anecdotes . An autobiographical novel about growing up and living too fast in a sinful city where everyone you meet is famous....or at least wants to be.

Vladik going over a published piece in The Lummox Journal.
